Adrienne Young Books In Order: Every Series And Where To Start

Adrienne Young has written two series set in different worlds, a companion collection, three standalones, and now a duology that ends on 15 December. A lot of reading-order lists mash those together.

Here is the truth: there is no single reading order for Adrienne Young. There are four tracks, and you pick one.

The Reader’s Truth: “A reading order should tell you what you can skip, not only what comes next.”

Everything, in publication order

YearBookWhat it is
2018Sky in the DeepDebut. Book 1 of the Sky in the Deep duology
2019The Girl the Sea Gave BackBook 2 of the Sky in the Deep duology
2020FableBook 1 of the Fable series, set in the Narrows
2021NamesakeBook 2 of the Fable series
2021The Last LegacySet in the same world as Fable
2022SaintSet in the same world as Fable
2022Spells for ForgettingStandalone
2023The Unmaking of June FarrowStandalone
2024Tides & DriftCollection of two companion stories, “Tides” and “Drift”
2025A Sea of Unspoken ThingsStandalone (published January 2025)
2025Fallen CityBook 1 of the Fallen City duology (4 November)
2026Chosen SonBook 2 and last of Fallen City (15 December)

Two catalogues list Drift on its own as a 2023 title, while others list the two stories together in 2024. If that matters to you, check the edition in front of you.

The four tracks

1. The clans. Sky in the Deep, then The Girl the Sea Gave Back. Her debut and its sequel. They are one story in two books.

2. The Narrows. Fable first, then Namesake. After that, The Last Legacy, Saint, and the Tides & Drift collection are set in the same world, and are best taken once you know it. We have not read them all in order, so we are not telling you which of the later books matters most.

3. The adult standalones. Spells for Forgetting, The Unmaking of June Farrow and A Sea of Unspoken Things. They are listed as standalones, so the order should not matter.

4. Fallen City. Fallen City (416 pages) then Chosen Son (352 pages). Her first adult fantasy, set in the walled city of Isara. Read these two in order. Here is everything we have on Chosen Son.

Where to start, by what you want

  • A sea story: Fable.
  • A feud and a winter: Sky in the Deep.
  • Politics, gods and a war: Fallen City, and you will want Chosen Son straight after.
  • No fantasy: one of the standalones.
  • A small taste of the Narrows: Tides & Drift. According to its listing, “Tides” is set before Fable. We would not start there.

None of these is a ranking. We have not read all of them.

What is not on this list

Nothing after Chosen Son has been announced as far as we could find. We did not find any source for a new series or a new standalone, so we are not listing one. If a title appears, we will add it here.

Who she is, and how the books connect to her career, is here.

The short version

  • Four tracks, not one order: Sky in the Deep, the Narrows, the standalones, Fallen City
  • Start with Fable for her best-known world, Sky in the Deep for her debut
  • Fallen City (4 November 2025) must be read before Chosen Son (15 December 2026)
  • Standalones can be read in any order
  • Tides & Drift collects two companion stories (2024)
  • Nothing after Chosen Son has been announced as far as we found

Which track are you on? I would pick the sea, and I know that is the most common answer.
