21 Book Hoarder Shirts For Readers Who Buy Faster Than They Read
There is a Japanese word for the stack of unread books on your nightstand: tsundoku. It has existed since the Meiji era, which means readers have been buying faster than they read for well over a century.
So the pile is not a character flaw. It is a hundred-year-old habit with its own vocabulary.
These 21 shirts are for the part of that habit you are willing to admit to in public — the shelf that ran out of room, the wishlist that keeps growing, the receipt you are not going to mention.
TBR Club is reader-supported. Every design below is our own, sold at tatata.store — that is how this blog pays for itself.
All $21.99. Sizing notes at the end.

👕 Fabric, fit and care
These are the printed specs from the product pages, not guesswork.
Fabric
Preshrunk 100% cotton, with three exceptions: Sport Grey is 90% cotton / 10% polyester, Dark Heather is 50/50 or 35/65 cotton-polyester, and Ash is 99% cotton / 1% polyester.
Construction: twin-needle 7/8″ collar, taped neck and shoulders, rolled-forward shoulders, twin-needle sleeve and bottom hems, and quarter-turned so there is no crease down the middle. Unisex cut.
Care — the one that matters
Machine wash at a maximum of 30°C / 86°F on a short spin, inside out, with like colours. No bleach, no ironing, no dry cleaning, and no tumble drying.
That last one is the rule people break. Preshrunk cotton is preshrunk for the wash, not for a hot dryer — a single tumble cycle is how a medium becomes a small.
Choosing a size
There is no size chart on the product pages, so do not guess from measurements. Find a t-shirt you already like the fit of, check its size, and order that.
If you are between two sizes, go up. A slightly roomy shirt gets worn; a slightly tight one lives in a drawer. Long designs — the definitions, the multi-line jokes — also read better with more room.
Delivery
Production takes 3 to 5 business days, then shipping is 5 to 7 business days. Around two weeks in total. Order earlier than feels necessary in December.
Buying one as a gift?
This is the safest bookish gift category there is, because the joke is self-deprecating. Nobody is offended by a shirt that says they own too many books — most readers consider it a compliment with extra steps.
One caution: the word hoarder lands differently depending on the person. If you are not sure, the “one more chapter” designs say the same thing more gently.
Why the pile is fine, actually
If the shelf has started to make you feel guilty rather than pleased, that is worth a longer read than a shirt can give you. We wrote one: the psychology of tsundoku, and why book lovers always want to buy more.
Short version: an unread shelf is not a backlog. It is a menu, and the whole value of a menu is that you choose from it in the moment.
Final thoughts
You are not behind. You are stocked.
How many unread books are on your shelf right now — and what is the one you keep meaning to start? Tell us in the comments.
The polite word for this condition is tsundoku, and there is a decent psychological reason the pile keeps growing.
For jokes about reading rather than buying, see our main collection of funny book lover shirts. If your real problem is people talking to you mid-chapter, that is its own collection — and the same jokes exist on mugs and tumblers.
